Dominic Calvert Lewis
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s remarkable performance continued as he scored a crucial late goal to secure a win for Leeds United against Brighton & Hove Albion. The striker capitalized on a defensive error by Seagulls’ Jan Paul van Hecke, rounding goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen to net his 14th Premier League goal of the season in the 95th minute. This victory not only highlighted Calvert-Lewin’s scoring prowess but also his overall contribution to Leeds’ attacking play.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin said: “I think for everyone involved, all our families are here as you do on the last home game, a great afternoon. They are a possession side and they had loads of the ball but the pitch, it was just quite a sunny afternoon, so it dried up a little bit. I think that helped me because it kind of stopped the ball and I smelt it and just got after it, and thankfully was able to put it in the net.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin added: “I have loved every minute of my maiden season at United. It is not going to be every game where you are on top and you are smashing teams. Sometimes football is like that and you hang in there and you just keep believing that you’re going to get the next one.”
Calvert-Lewin’s goal not only secured a vital win for Leeds but also extended his impressive scoring streak, having scored in three consecutive Premier League games and four in his last five appearances. This remarkable form has seen him become the highest-scoring English player in the top tier this season, alongside Ollie Watkins and Morgan Gibbs-White, all tied on 14 goals.
The striker’s ability to seize opportunities has been pivotal for Leeds United, who are now assured of their place in the Premier League next season. Calvert-Lewin’s impact on the pitch has been a significant factor in the team’s success, as they aim to finish as high up the table as possible. His consistent performances have not only delighted fans but also set a benchmark for English strikers in the league.
As Leeds United fans celebrate their team’s mathematical safety in the division, Calvert-Lewin’s contributions will be remembered as a key component of their successful campaign. His ability to adapt and capitalize on opportunities, even in challenging matches, highlights his importance to the team and his potential for future success.
