Mike Jackson Burnley Manager
In a tense encounter between Arsenal and Burnley, manager Mike Jackson voiced his dissatisfaction with the decision not to dismiss Arsenal’s Kai Havertz for a “dangerous” tackle. The incident occurred during Arsenal’s narrow victory, with the technology failing to intervene, leaving many at the Emirates Stadium surprised by the lenient punishment.
Mike Jackson said: “I’ve seen it back and, while I don’t like to see people sent off, I think it’s a red card. If we’re honest enough and we watch it back, it’s dangerous and he’s leaving the floor. It’s a cynical foul anyway to break up play, so that in the first place is bad enough. But we’re disappointed we didn’t get it, because it changes the game for the last 20 minutes in our favour.”
Mike Jackson added: “In today’s game, it is a red card and it is dangerous. He could have injured him as well. That means that they go down to 10 with 20 minutes to go, we are still in the game. We stayed in the game as long as we could. They’re big decisions that sometimes we don’t get, and we haven’t got throughout the season.”
Despite the contentious decision, Arsenal managed to secure three points, furthering their Premier League title ambitions. Jackson’s comments reflect a broader sentiment among pundits and fans who believe the challenge warranted a more severe sanction. The Burnley manager acknowledged the challenges referees face but emphasized the importance of reviewing such incidents frame by frame to ensure fair play.
The decision not to escalate the punishment has sparked debate about the consistency of officiating and the role of VAR in modern football. As Burnley continues their campaign, Jackson’s remarks underscore the frustrations clubs face when crucial decisions do not go their way.
