Roberto De Zerbi
Tottenham Hotspur continues to grapple with significant injury setbacks as several key players work towards recovery. The club’s new head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, has been dealing with a series of injuries that have impacted the team’s performance and player availability. Notably, James Maddison recently returned to action after a nine-month absence due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, marking a significant milestone in his recovery journey.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “About Solanke, he’s improving very quickly. I don’t know, for this game, I don’t know if he can be available. We hope for the next game in Stamford Bridge.”
De Zerbi’s tenure at Tottenham has been marked by a challenging start, with injuries to key players such as Mohammed Kudus, Cristian Romero, and Xavi Simons. Kudus, who had been hopeful of a return, suffered a setback that ended his season and dashed his World Cup hopes with Ghana. Meanwhile, Romero, who sustained a knee injury in De Zerbi’s first game in charge, has chosen to remain in England to focus on his recovery, with the Argentina FA sending staff to aid his rehabilitation.
Graham Potter said: “I think we have to think about what is right for the team, that’s important but also Dejan is in a place where he has had a long fight and he is making progress.”
Dejan Kulusevski, another key player, will miss the upcoming World Cup due to his ongoing recovery from a knee injury. Sweden’s manager, Graham Potter, emphasized the importance of prioritizing Kulusevski’s long-term fitness over immediate participation in international fixtures.
Guglielmo Vicario, who underwent hernia surgery in March, is back in training but faces competition from Antonin Kinsky, who has been in fine form. Despite being the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, Vicario’s return to match fitness remains uncertain.
Xavi Simons, unfortunately, became the fourth Tottenham player to suffer an ACL injury in recent months. His recovery process is expected to follow a similar timeline to Maddison’s, with a potential return in early 2027.
Ben Davies and Wilson Odobert are also on the road to recovery. Davies, who underwent a second operation on his broken ankle, has been present with the squad in a non-playing capacity. Odobert, recovering from a ruptured ACL, is working through his rehabilitation stages.
These injuries have posed significant challenges for De Zerbi as he navigates his early days at Tottenham. The club remains hopeful that the return of these key players will bolster their squad strength in the coming months.
