Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal’s quest for European glory faces a significant challenge as they prepare for the Champions League final with several key players sidelined due to injuries. Manager Mikel Arteta is dealing with a depleted squad, which could impact the team’s performance on the grand stage.
Mikel Arteta said: “We don’t know, but it does not look good at all.”
Ben White’s season came to an abrupt end following a knee injury sustained during Arsenal’s Premier League match against West Ham. The full-back’s collision with Crysencio Summerville led to his replacement by Martin Zubimendi, with Declan Rice stepping in as a makeshift right-back. White’s injury has been diagnosed as a significant medial knee ligament injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the season and the upcoming World Cup. Arsenal’s medical team is focused on his recovery, aiming for his readiness for pre-season preparations.
A club statement revealed: “Further to Sunday’s match at West Ham United, subsequent assessments and specialist reviews have confirmed that Ben White has sustained a significant medial knee ligament injury, which will rule him out for the remainder of this season.”
Jurrien Timber, another crucial player, has been out with an ankle issue since March. Arteta expressed uncertainty regarding Timber’s return this season, highlighting the difficulty of managing the situation. The absence of the Dutch international adds to Arsenal’s defensive woes as they approach the season’s climax.
Mikel Arteta said: “Yes, that’s been probably the most difficult thing to manage.”
Riccardo Calafiori also raised concerns after being substituted at half-time against West Ham due to an undisclosed issue. While the severity of his condition remains unclear, his injury record this season, which includes missing 13 matches, is a cause for concern.
Mikel Merino, who underwent foot surgery in February, is yet to make an appearance for Arsenal. However, there is optimism about his potential involvement in the Champions League final against PSG, provided his recovery progresses smoothly.
As Arsenal navigates these injury challenges, Arteta’s tactical decisions and squad depth will be tested. The team must adapt quickly to maintain their competitive edge in the upcoming final, with hopes pinned on the swift recovery of their sidelined stars.
