Burnley’s interim manager, Mike Jackson, has acknowledged the need to mend the strained relationship between the club and its fanbase as the season draws to a close. The Clarets have struggled to secure a home victory since their win against Leeds United on October 18, contributing to a growing discontent among supporters. Jackson is keenly aware of the importance of rallying fan support as Burnley prepares for their upcoming Championship campaign.
Mike Jackson said: “I’ll always try and be honest with you, I don’t know any other way of doing it, I’ve always been like that myself. In a way we’ve let ourselves down at home, we should have done better at home. That’s not blaming anyone, because I include myself in that. I include everybody that’s been involved with the club. The fans deserve more, so we’ve got to give the fans something to get them with us and that’s important.”
Mike Jackson continued: “They came in good numbers [to Leeds], they paid good money in the times it is now, which is understandable. But if we can get next week, if we can give them something. If they can back us, and I know it’s not easy, but that would be brilliant.”
Mike Jackson further stated: “To strip it all back, it’s about trying to win a game of football from now until the end of the season. Give our supporters something to hold on to, to go into next year. It’s difficult when you’re down there like this and what’s happened, but that’s no excuse for some of the errors and our start the game [against Leeds]. It’s our responsibility and the players’ responsibility to start the game better.”
The interim boss’s comments highlight a season fraught with challenges, particularly at Turf Moor, where the team has struggled to deliver satisfactory performances. Jackson’s acknowledgment of the fans’ loyalty, despite the team’s poor form, underscores his commitment to turning the tide. His emphasis on honesty and collective responsibility aims to foster a renewed sense of unity and purpose among players and supporters alike.
As Burnley looks ahead to the Championship, the task of rebuilding trust and enthusiasm within the fanbase will be crucial. Jackson’s approach, centered on transparency and accountability, seeks to provide a foundation for optimism and engagement as the club navigates this transitional period.
