Steven Gerrard Manager
Steven Gerrard could be on the verge of a return to English football management, with Burnley reportedly interested in his services. This follows Burnley’s recent relegation to the Championship, which has led to questions about Scott Parker’s future at the club. Gerrard’s previous managerial stint at Aston Villa ended in 2022, shortly after his disciplinary measures, particularly a strict fines system, became a major talking point.
Peter Crouch said: “It might save you a point and you still have to take [the team] for dinner? Maybe someone could chip in like, ‘you helped us out there, let me put some money into this.'”
Steve Sidwell remarked: “£200 a minute? What if you forget and don’t turn up for two hours? I think I’ve seen this before and, I don’t know whether it was true or not, purely because of the amounts. Because that is extortionate.”
Gerrard’s fines system at Aston Villa was extensive, with players facing penalties for lateness, including a £500 fine for arriving late to training and a £200-per-minute charge for being late to the training pitch, team coach, or meetings. Match days carried even harsher consequences, with a £1,000 fine for lateness. These measures quickly gained public attention after being revealed in the summer of 2022.
Steven Gerrard said: “Listen, I’m more ready than I have been. My family are back home at Liverpool, kids are all settled at school. I’m more ready than I have been; I’m all ears. But at the same time, I’m not chasing, I’m not searching, I’m not desperate. I’m having a fantastic time at TNT with Ally [McCoist] and the boys, and the girls, really enjoying it. I’m covering some good games, big games, I’m excited to take my little lad to watch the next Champions League games.”
Gerrard had previously explored a return to management with Rangers earlier this season after leaving Al Ettifaq in January 2025. Currently, he is enjoying his role at TNT, covering major games and spending time with his family. Despite not actively seeking a managerial position, Gerrard expressed readiness for new opportunities, indicating a potential openness to the Burnley role.
