Tottenham Hotspur is grappling with a series of injuries as they aim to finish the season on a strong note. Key players, including Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, and James Maddison, are currently sidelined, while Cristian Romero and Mohammed Kudus have been ruled out for the remainder of the season. The club is hopeful for the return of some players in the upcoming matches, but challenges remain.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “Destiny has a [muscular] problem. I think he can’t play tomorrow, but he played on Saturday and played a great first half, second half as well but the first was great.”
Destiny Udogie, who has suffered his fifth injury of the season, will miss Tottenham’s next game. De Zerbi expressed optimism about Udogie’s potential return for the match against Aston Villa on May 3. Meanwhile, James Maddison is dealing with a setback, although he remains part of the traveling squad.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “No he’s not available [to play] yet. Especially in this week, he felt pain but not so important pain. Better he plays but as a leader and a guy, I want to see in my dressing room nice people, positive people.”
Guglielmo Vicario, recovering from hernia surgery, is expected to rejoin training next week, with hopes of featuring against Aston Villa. Pape Matar Sarr, who missed the Brighton game due to a shoulder injury, will also be unavailable for the upcoming match against Wolves.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “He is not available for tomorrow. I hope he can start with me from Monday.”
Cristian Romero, Tottenham’s captain, is out for the rest of the season due to injury and transfer speculation. De Zerbi praised Romero’s dedication to the club despite his current situation.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “First of all, Romero loves Tottenham. People have to know he’s suffering for this injury, suffering because he can’t play for us again this season. He’s a great captain for us. We have to be positive.”
Mohammed Kudus, who recently returned to training, has encountered a new issue, ending his season prematurely. Ben Davies, following surgery in early 2026, is on track to play again this season, potentially against Aston Villa.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “I am sorry for him because he is one of my perfect players. He is a very specific player for me like Kudus, like Romero but I hope for him he can play in the World Cup because the World Cup for a player is a moment. Is the best period of their career, but I don’t know the situation very well.”
Wilson Odobert, suffering from an ACL injury, is not expected to return until late 2026. The series of injuries presents a significant challenge for Tottenham as they navigate the final stretch of the season. The club remains hopeful for the return of key players, aiming to bolster their squad for the remaining fixtures.
