AFC Bournemouth Chairman Jeff Mostyn has been recognized for his contributions to football literature, having been shortlisted for the prestigious Football Book of the Year award. Mostyn, who played a pivotal role in the club’s transformation, shared his reflections on the journey and expressed gratitude to those who supported him along the way.
Jeff Mostyn said: “I was absolutely humbled to be shortlisted. When I bought the club in 2006, it was on the verge of bankruptcy, nobody including me could ever have envisaged what an incredible story was about to unfold. There begins, in my humble opinion, one of football’s greatest ever stories. From minus seventeen points in League Division Two through to the Premier League in only six seasons.”
Jeff Mostyn continued: “In particular, I thanked Eddie Howe, Jason Tindall, their staff, and all the players to have represented the club in my time. Last but by no means least, our incredible supporters. You have always given me unconditional support and indeed continue to do so every match day and every time we meet. You are the backbone of the club and will always remain so in my eyes.”
Jeff Mostyn added: “I am so proud that I was afforded the honour and privilege to chair the club through its most successful decade, and leave such a memorable and lasting legacy. My book would not have been possible without my two book managers Ed Bowers and Neil Vacher. Thank you both for dedicating two years of your lives to support me. To my incredible wife Rosie, thank you for being by my side throughout the incredible 20-year journey. The book and the journey are dedicated to you.”
Mostyn’s journey with AFC Bournemouth is indeed a remarkable tale of resilience and success. Under his leadership, the club rose from the brink of financial ruin to achieve Premier League status in just six seasons. This accomplishment is widely regarded as one of the most inspiring stories in football history.
The chairman’s acknowledgment of key figures such as Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall, along with the unwavering support of the fans, highlights the collective effort that fueled the club’s rise. Mostyn’s book, which captures this extraordinary journey, is a testament to the dedication and passion that drove AFC Bournemouth to new heights.
The nomination for the Football Book of the Year award not only celebrates Mostyn’s literary contribution but also underscores the significance of AFC Bournemouth’s journey in the annals of football history.
