Michael Carrick Manchester United
Manchester United are on the verge of securing a return to the Champions League, and Michael Carrick is reportedly in prime position to be confirmed as the club’s permanent head coach. Carrick, who previously served as a first-team coach during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure, has been leading the team as head coach since January. With United’s potential return to Europe’s elite competition, Carrick is expected to continue in his role beyond the current season.
Michael Carrick said: “I don’t think it’s disrespectful. I’ve got the utmost respect for him, he’s a close friend of mine and I worked closely with him when I was here, I was quite attached to that and we did a lot of good things. We came close. In the end, it changed and went in a different direction. That’s football. But it’s irrelevant really. It really is. That’s not a negative or a positive. We’re a different team now, irrespective of me, who is in charge, it’s a different team and different time. I’m not sure, it’s not something in terms of deadline that I’m really chasing. I’m here at the moment to help the team and the club get results. At the moment, we’re doing alright. We can keep pushing and get better and that’s generally all I’m focused on right now. I’ve said it many times, I enjoy being here, I enjoy the role I’m in. We’ve had some good results and we’re in decent shape. There’s a lot to go, we want to keep improving.”
Carrick’s journey mirrors that of Solskjaer, who transitioned from interim to permanent manager after delivering promising results. However, Solskjaer’s tenure ultimately ended in November 2021. Carrick’s current contract as head coach was initially set until the end of the season, but with United’s strong performance, the club is looking to extend his stay.
The potential confirmation of Carrick as the permanent head coach would mark a significant step in his managerial career. His focus on improving the team’s performance and achieving consistent results has been evident, and his leadership is seen as a key factor in United’s recent successes. As the club aims for a Champions League return, Carrick’s role in guiding the team forward remains pivotal.
