Vitor Pereira
Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira has emphasized the importance of securing additional points to ensure the team’s Premier League survival this season. With five games remaining, Forest currently stands at 36 points, a tally that has historically been sufficient for survival. However, Pereira is adamant that his team must continue to push forward to avoid the risk of relegation.
Vitor Pereira said: “We are in a position where we are depending on us. We have our lives in our hands, this is what I have said to them. Now it is fighting to get points and to keep going. We need to keep fighting and trying to get points everywhere. Playing home or playing away, we need the right mentality to face the next challenge. The results we are getting means we are creating something consistent. This is the spirit I want to see from my team until the last game. I cannot say with three or six more points it is done. I believe this season will be special in terms of points needed to avoid relegation. We need to get points, try to get points tomorrow, try to get points in the next game after that. This is the only way to get the conditions to celebrate and to feel proud of ourselves.”
Pereira’s comments come ahead of a crucial match against Sunderland, emphasizing the need for a strong mentality both at home and away. Forest’s recent performances have been promising, including a notable victory over Burnley, thanks to a hat-trick from Morgan Gibbs-White. This victory marked Pereira’s first league win at the City Ground and capped off a successful run of three consecutive home games, which included a draw against Aston Villa and a Europa League quarter-final win against Porto.
Vitor Pereira continued: “If I accept the (Forest) job, it means I believe in the team, the players, the club and the supporters and in our work. I’m very positive. I believe we have the talent, the character, the energy and the supporters to be in the Premier League next season. This is what I’m trying to put in the mind of my team.”
Forest is currently five points above 18th-placed Tottenham Hotspur and three points ahead of 17th-placed West Ham United. Pereira’s focus on maintaining a consistent performance is crucial as the team approaches the final stretch of the season. The manager’s belief in the squad’s potential and the support from fans is driving the team’s ambition to remain in the Premier League.
