Nottingham Forest’s hopes of Premier League survival and European success have been dealt a significant setback with the news that Callum Hudson-Odoi will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. The winger, who sustained an injury during the Europa League victory over FC Porto, was absent from the squad in their recent 4-1 triumph against Burnley. Hudson-Odoi was seen on crutches at the City Ground, supporting his teammates from the sidelines.
Nottingham Forest said: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that Callum Hudson-Odoi suffered an injury to his right quadriceps muscle in our Europa League Quarter Final fixture against FC Porto last Thursday. Callum is expected to return to full training during the pre-season period and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.”
Vitor Pereira said: “It is a serious injury. It was very bad news for us. He had a scan and now it is trying to understand if it is possible for him to recover before the end of the season.”
Hudson-Odoi’s injury occurred shortly after he was introduced as a half-time substitute against Porto, lasting only 25 minutes before being forced off the pitch. His visible distress highlighted the severity of the injury, which now leaves Forest with limited options on the wings. Omari Hutchinson and Dilane Bakwa filled the flanks against Burnley, while Dan Ndoye, another natural winger, was not included in the weekend’s squad. However, players like Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolas Dominguez can also cover wide positions.
The victory over Burnley was crucial for Forest, as it moved them five points clear of the relegation zone with five matches remaining. However, the loss of Hudson-Odoi could impact their attacking prowess in the critical closing stages of the season. Additionally, centre-back Murillo, who was substituted at the same time as Hudson-Odoi against Porto, also suffered a setback. Although he started against Burnley, he was forced off before half-time. Pereira remains hopeful that Murillo’s issue is not severe.
As Forest prepare for their upcoming clash against Sunderland, the absence of Hudson-Odoi will be keenly felt. The team will need to rely on their depth and adaptability to navigate the challenges ahead and secure their Premier League status.
