The Sunderland supporters’ group, Red and White Army (RAWA), has been in ongoing discussions with Sunderland AFC following a series of ticketing issues that arose during the recent match against Newcastle United. The club had initially rescinded several tickets due to what they described as a “large-scale” breach of ticketing rules, only to later return them to sale.
RAWA said: “RAWA has been engaging with the club since before the Newcastle game to understand what led to fans having tickets rescinded for the Derby match. The club attempted to clarify matters in a statement to RAWA on 31st March. These discussions are ongoing, and we are pushing for a resolution.”
RAWA continued: “We have also collated a list of ticketing issues that are rightly causing significant concern and frustration to fans, including moving seats, admin fees, moving between different pricing structures, etc., and are asking for a further ticketing-specific meeting with the club to try to address these issues as a matter of urgency. We understand that these are very time-sensitive, given where we are in the renewal timetable.”
RAWA added: “With many supporters still unable to resolve ticketing problems, we’re calling on SAFC to delay the release of unrenewed season tickets with the proposed deadline at 5 pm tomorrow (April 20th). Fans should not be at risk of losing their season ticket/the opportunity to move due to issues outside their control.”
The issues have sparked significant concern among fans, particularly as they relate to the administrative challenges and financial implications of moving seats and navigating different pricing structures. The supporters’ group has emphasized the urgency of resolving these matters, especially with the looming deadline for season ticket renewals. The call for a delay in the release of unrenewed season tickets highlights the fans’ desire for a fair resolution that does not penalize them for issues beyond their control. Sunderland AFC’s response and subsequent actions will be crucial in maintaining a positive relationship with its fan base.
