Roberto De Zerbi
Roberto De Zerbi, the newly appointed manager of Tottenham Hotspur, is adopting unconventional methods to inspire his team as they battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League. The Italian manager, who is gearing up for his first home match against his former club Brighton, believes that a single victory could change the narrative of Tottenham’s troubled season.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “I don’t know if we’ll win the game for [because of] dinner but I know we ate very well and the food was amazing. If we win, I’m ready to pay every week for one dinner. I have to get to know the players better and better every week, now it is much better. We have no time to lose and we have no time to understand the problems we have had this season. We have to be focused just on the next game and to transfer confidence. I can bring myself, I can bring my philosophy of football but also I’m working to create a good atmosphere and a good relationship with the players. I think in this moment of football, especially for Tottenham in this season, the qualities of the players are important but the spirit and the relationship between the players, the love the players have for the club is more important for sure.”
De Zerbi’s approach includes treating his players to a meal at a high-end Mayfair restaurant, Bacchanalia, with the promise of making it a weekly affair if they secure a win. This strategy is part of his broader effort to foster a positive team environment and strengthen the players’ connection with the club. As Tottenham finds itself in the relegation zone with only six matches remaining, the pressure is mounting to improve their dismal home record, where they have managed to secure only 10 points all season.
The manager is keenly aware of the critical nature of their upcoming fixture, emphasizing the importance of both the result and the psychological boost a win could provide. De Zerbi is also cautious about player fitness, opting not to rush James Maddison back into action, citing the example of Mohammed Kudus, who was lost to injury under similar circumstances.
Tottenham’s struggle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium highlights the urgency for De Zerbi’s squad to capitalize on their remaining home fixtures. With the team in a precarious position, the Italian manager’s innovative approach could be pivotal in their quest for Premier League survival.
