Supporter organization the 1878s has announced exciting plans to create an unforgettable atmosphere for the first Merseyside derby at Everton’s new stadium. This highly anticipated event is set to take place on Sunday, with fans lining the road leading into the stadium, aiming to surpass the electric atmosphere seen during Everton’s recent victory over Chelsea.
James Tarkowski said: “The league is so tight, it’s ever so tight. There’s a lot of teams chasing these positions now, so it’s on us. I’ve said we need probably two or three special days to get where we want to go, so hopefully we can start that next weekend against Liverpool because that’s what’s going to get us where we want to be. We’re in a good position. We had a massive win at home not so long ago.”
David Moyes said: “The crowd made it feel like a big game. It was a brilliant atmosphere inside the stadium. It was more like Goodison than we’ve probably had in any other game… it was a really, really good night and a big thank you to the support for the part they played, it helped us.”
The Everton supporters, known as the 1878s, are planning to unfurl a massive tifo before the kick-off, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling encounter against Liverpool. The atmosphere during the Chelsea match was hailed as one of the best of the season, and the fans are eager to replicate and even exceed that energy for the derby.
Everton’s recent performance, including a hard-earned point at Brentford, has kept them in a favorable position as they approach the final six games of the season. A victory over Liverpool would significantly boost their chances of securing a return to European competition, a goal that seemed distant at the start of the season.
James Tarkowski, expected to lead the team as captain, has emphasized the importance of delivering standout performances in the coming weeks. His stoppage-time volley in the previous derby at Goodison Park, which denied Liverpool a win, remains a highlight for the defender. As Everton prepares for this landmark fixture, the anticipation is palpable, with fans and players alike hoping for a memorable day on the banks of the Mersey.
