Régis Le Bris
Sunderland’s head coach, Régis Le Bris, has provided an injury update as the team prepares to face Spurs this weekend. The coach revealed that Romaine Mundle and Jocelin Ta Bi are likely to miss the remainder of the season due to injuries. Both players underwent surgery, with Mundle sidelined by a hamstring issue and Ta Bi by an ankle injury. However, there is a glimmer of hope for Bertrand Traoré, who might return to action before the season concludes.
Régis Le Bris said: “Probably for Jocelin and Romaine, it will be at the end of the season. It might be the last week, so we won’t take risks to play with them if they are not ready. Probably it will be more to prepare them properly to be ready for the pre-season, in good shape.”
Le Bris also shared updates on other players, noting that Dan Ballard and Nilson Angulo remain sidelined but are nearing a return. Meanwhile, Reinildo, Enzo Le Fée, and Nordi Mukiele are in contention to start against Spurs on Sunday. The coach expressed optimism about the squad’s depth and readiness for the upcoming fixture.
In addition to injury updates, Le Bris commended midfielder Chris Rigg for his impressive performance in the Tyne-Wear derby victory over Newcastle. Rigg, who is expected to retain his place in the starting XI, has shown remarkable resilience despite limited game time earlier in the season.
Régis Le Bris said: “Yeah, he’s still young. He’s really young, but he showed exactly what we are talking about. Great character, consistency, resilience. When it’s hard, not when it’s easy or you are just at the right level, when it’s hard. I think he’s a great symbol of what we want to develop here. The league is so demanding that you have to have a strong team with strong togetherness, but also great characters on the pitch. He’s one of these players.”
The coach’s praise highlights Rigg’s potential as a key player in Sunderland’s future plans, emphasizing the importance of character and resilience in the demanding league environment. As Sunderland gears up for their clash against Spurs, the team will look to leverage the depth of their squad and the emerging talent of players like Rigg to navigate the challenges posed by injuries and maintain their competitive edge.
