Leeds United
Stuart Dallas, a former Leeds United stalwart, recently shared his thoughts on the club’s current form and future prospects. Dallas, who retired from professional football a month before the 2024 Championship play-off final due to a severe knee injury, remains closely connected with the team. Having been a pivotal part of the squad that secured promotion to the Premier League in 2020, he continues to engage with both former and current players. At the launch of his new Optimum Padel centre in Leeds, Dallas discussed the team’s recent performances and their upcoming challenges.
Stuart Dallas said: “Because it is fantastic to be in with a chance of winning it. Obviously the relegation battle is still there and the priority is to avoid that and be safe. I think if you said now you’d be safe and lose the semi-final, a lot of people would probably take it. But they’re in with a fighting chance – they’re more than capable of doing both. I’m very, very positive that they’ll get the points they need to survive. Very, very confident.”
Dallas expressed optimism about Leeds United’s ability to balance their fight against relegation with their pursuit of success in cup competitions. Despite recent struggles in the Premier League, the team managed to secure a morale-boosting victory over West Ham in a penalty shootout, which Dallas believes could serve as a catalyst for the remainder of the season.
Stuart Dallas said: “You need a result just to give you that little bit of confidence back. But this team is showing enough over the course of season to show that the more than capable of staying at this level and progressing. But of course, it’s huge. It’ll give everybody a lift to see the reaction after Sunday, after the penalty shootout – you’ve seen the reaction of the players, what it means to them. It’s huge.”
The victory against West Ham marked Leeds’ first away win against a top-flight side since September, albeit not in regulation time. Dallas highlighted the significance of this win, noting the positive impact it could have on the players’ confidence as they prepare for their upcoming match against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Stuart Dallas said: “Having been speaking to a few of them, they know what it means, and for us supporters as well. It’s these fans who live and breathe a football club, and they want the team to do well. To give them a highlight of going to Wembley – Wembley hasn’t favoured us in recent years – but to get to a semi-finals is incredible and I’m sure they’ll take over London now.”
Dallas emphasized the importance of fan support and the potential for Leeds United to reach the semi-finals, providing a much-needed highlight for the club’s dedicated supporters. With the team showing resilience and determination, Dallas remains confident in their ability to achieve both safety in the league and success in cup competitions.
