Aston Villa is set to face Bologna in Italy for the first time in over three decades as they prepare for their European fixture. Despite Bologna’s struggles at home, with only two wins in their last 14 matches, they remain unbeaten in Europe since their defeat at Villa Park last September. This two-legged tie promises to be a competitive encounter, with Villa aiming to capitalize on their previous victories against the Serie A side.
Matty Cash said: “It’s two legs and 180 minutes. We are here to win, respecting them, but we are here to get our business done. They are a really, really good team. Really good man to man. Really strong. Skorupski [goalkeeper] is injured at the minute, and I have spoken to him before in [the Poland] camp before previous games. The fixtures after we played them, I don’t think that they have lost, so they have been really good in Europe since we played them.”
Matty Cash added: “Disappointing, but I sort of try to switch off from Villa, and then switch off from Poland. Missing out on the World Cup is not great, but everyone in the Poland team gave a good account of ourselves. Now back at Villa, we are trying to switch off from that now. It’s been a while since we have been together as a group. Everyone went away and did different things. We have had a few sessions together and nearly a full week’s training. The full focus is on tomorrow’s game and to get the manager’s thinking for tomorrow. I think it is good to change the scenery up. The boys who didn’t go away had a rest.”
The upcoming match is crucial for Aston Villa, as they look to build on their previous successes against Bologna. Matty Cash emphasized the importance of focusing on the task at hand and acknowledged the strength of their opponents. Despite the setback of missing out on World Cup qualification with Poland, Cash remains determined to contribute to Villa’s European campaign.
Villa’s preparation has been thorough, with the team regrouping after international duties and engaging in intensive training sessions. The players who did not participate in international matches had the opportunity to rest, ensuring the squad is refreshed and ready for the challenge ahead. As the team gears up for this significant fixture, the focus is firmly on executing their strategy and securing a positive result in Italy.
