Elliot Anderson
Nottingham Forest is bracing for a fierce battle to keep hold of their star midfielder, Elliot Anderson, as both Manchester United and Manchester City reportedly prepare bids in the region of £100 million. Anderson has been a standout performer for Forest in a challenging Premier League season and is set to play a pivotal role in England’s midfield at the upcoming World Cup. With his talent recognized on a global stage, a move to a Champions League club seems imminent.
Chris Waddle said: “Elliot Anderson is a Newcastle fan. He’s a Geordie. He probably couldn’t believe he got sold to Nottingham Forest in the first place but he’s enjoying his football, he’s in the England team, and it looks like he’ll be going to the World Cup. He’ll not be in a rush but the chance of going back to Newcastle? I’m sure he’s always wanted to play in those black and white stripes and I’m sure he’ll be up for it. I think he’s on his game at the minute, let’s be honest. He’s playing well for Forest. He’s consistent. Week in, week out he does a job, and so he’s been in good form. You would think at his age, he’d only get better as he gets older. Most players do. Newcastle may just swing it because he’s a Newcastle fan.”
Despite Anderson’s emotional ties to Newcastle, a return to his boyhood club appears unlikely due to the substantial fee Forest is expected to demand. Furthermore, Newcastle must consider their financial sustainability under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Meanwhile, Manchester United is reportedly strategizing to fund a move for Anderson by offloading several players. According to reports, the club plans to sell Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, and Marcus Rashford, potentially raising £64 million from Barcelona and Napoli for Rashford and Hojlund.
United’s financial maneuvering includes seeking £19 million for Onana and benefiting from Casemiro’s departure, which would remove £350,000-a-week from their wage bill. These efforts underline United’s determination to secure Anderson’s services at Old Trafford, highlighting the intense competition for his signature among England’s elite clubs.
