Crysencio Summerville, who has been a key player for Leeds United, is on the verge of returning to action after being sidelined with a calf injury for nearly three weeks. His anticipated return is expected to provide a significant boost for West Ham as they approach the crucial run-in of the Premier League season. However, West Ham’s manager, Santo, remains cautious about rushing the player back into the lineup.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: “We’re all trying to get him back as soon as possible. We’re assessing him day by day, and seeing how he improves. We aren’t at the point [of making a decision] yet. There’s still one day to go, and then we’ll make decisions.”
Summerville had been in impressive form, scoring five times in eight Premier League appearances before his injury setback. His return would indeed be a timely boost for West Ham, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the crucial final stages of the season. Meanwhile, key centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo is also in doubt for the upcoming match due to a calf injury sustained during training with Leeds. Although scans have been conducted as a precaution, the injury is not believed to be serious.
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has expressed his reluctance to risk starting players who are injury doubts, given the importance of the Premier League run-in. Leeds had previously defeated West Ham 2-1 in October, during what was Santo’s fourth game in charge. Reflecting on the upcoming match, Santo acknowledged the changes both teams have undergone since their last encounter.
Santo said: “We know it’s going to be a tough game. Leeds are a good team, and they have their own ambitions, so it’s going to be a very intense match. We played them earlier this season, but I think that both teams have changed a lot since then. They have quality players, they play good football, and we know what to expect.”
The match promises to be a compelling contest, with both teams eager to secure valuable points. West Ham will be hoping that Summerville’s return can provide the edge they need to overcome Leeds, while Leeds will look to maintain their form and continue their push up the Premier League table.
