Roberto De Zerbi
Roberto De Zerbi has been appointed as the manager of Tottenham Hotspur in a bid to steer the Premier League club away from the threat of relegation. The Italian, who previously managed Brighton and Marseille, replaces interim boss Igor Tudor, who struggled to inspire the team. With Tottenham sitting precariously just one point above the relegation zone, De Zerbi’s task is to secure the club’s top-flight status with seven crucial fixtures remaining.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “I am delighted to be joining this fantastic football club, which is one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world. I am here because I believe in that ambition and have signed a long-term contract to give everything to deliver it.”
Johan Lange, Spurs’ sporting director, said: “Roberto was our number one target for the summer and we are very pleased to be able to bring him in now. He is one of the most creative and forward-thinking coaches in world football, and brings with him a wealth of experience at the highest level, including in the Premier League.”
De Zerbi’s appointment marks a significant moment for Tottenham, who have seen a rapid turnover in management, with three managers departing since May 2025. The club, known for its rich history and recent Europa League success, is now focused on avoiding an unprecedented drop to the second division, a fate they haven’t faced since the 1977/78 season.
However, the decision to bring in De Zerbi has not been without controversy. His previous support for Mason Greenwood at Marseille, following the player’s departure from Manchester United, has divided opinions among Spurs fans. De Zerbi’s comments on Greenwood have sparked debate, particularly given the player’s tumultuous past.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “I don’t even get into the private lives of my children, because I want to give everyone their freedom. All I can see is that Mason seems a good lad, he paid in a strong way for what happened. He has probably here found the right environment for him, which gave him affection, and held out its hand to him. When I look at him as a person, I feel sad for what happened in his life, without getting into the details. Because the person I know here is very different to the one that has been described, especially in England.”
As Tottenham gears up for decisive matches against fellow relegation-threatened teams like Wolves and Leeds, De Zerbi’s tactical acumen and leadership will be put to the test. The club and its supporters will be hoping for a swift turnaround under his guidance to ensure their Premier League survival.
