Nathan Patterson
Everton’s Nathan Patterson is determined to make a significant impact at Hill Dickinson Stadium, aiming to secure his place in Scotland’s World Cup squad. Having only started one Premier League game at Everton’s new home, Patterson sees this as a crucial opportunity to fulfill his World Cup aspirations. With Scotland set to participate in the tournament for the first time since 1998, the 24-year-old right-back is eager to be part of the Tartan Army’s journey to the USA.
Scotland’s World Cup campaign includes group games in Foxborough, Massachusetts, against Haiti and Morocco, followed by a high-stakes match against five-time champions Brazil in Miami Gardens, Florida. Patterson, who missed out on Euro 2024 due to injury, is using that disappointment as motivation to earn a spot in Steve Clarke’s squad.
Nathan Patterson said: “It’s been a while. I had a few injuries and got myself sorted, but it’s nice to be back, nice to see the lads and good to get among them again. The disappointment not to be a part of the Euro squad and miss out through injury was obviously hard to take, but we’ve got another huge tournament in the summer. I want to make sure I’m there. I would have loved to be there (Euros) and be involved, but these things happen and my main aim is to make sure I’m in the squad for the World Cup.”
Patterson, who joined Everton from Rangers for £12 million in January 2022, has been earmarked as Seamus Coleman’s long-term successor. Despite his limited appearances due to injuries, he remains confident in his abilities and is determined to showcase his talent on the international stage.
Patterson said: “I feel really good. I don’t feel as if I’m at a stage where I’m doubting my body at the minute, so I’m happy where I’m at. I think the main thing is just to be confident and go express yourself. You’re in the squad for a reason and it’s just about enjoying it as well. The main thing is just impress but just do it the way you do it. I know what I’m capable of and I know what I bring to the team.”
Patterson’s journey with Everton and his quest for a World Cup spot reflect his resilience and ambition. As he works to cement his place in the Scotland squad, his performances at Hill Dickinson Stadium could be pivotal in realizing his World Cup dreams.
