Tim Iroegbunam has expressed confidence in his ability to contribute to Everton’s quest for European qualification following a commendable performance in their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal. Despite the loss, the 22-year-old midfielder showcased his growing influence under manager David Moyes, particularly in a match that tested the league leaders.
Tim Iroegbunam said: “I have played now and then so what I do is try and just work hard, do well at what I do well and try and make a difference when I get the opportunity to play. I know my strengths and how good of a player I am, so it’s just about being consistent and applying that in all of the games or when I get opportunities.”
Looking ahead to the next fixture, Iroegbunam added: “We’ve got a big game with Chelsea next week so we have just got to go again at home, give it all we have got and hopefully it doesn’t end the way it did [against Arsenal].”
Reflecting on the Arsenal match, Iroegbunam stated: “It wasn’t the result we deserved. We played well for 85 minutes, we created chances, we just didn’t have quite enough to keep it toward the end. We conceded two but that wasn’t a true reflection of how well we defended and how solid we were and how together we were.”
Iroegbunam’s performance at the Emirates Stadium was a key component of Everton’s strategy, as he collaborated with Idrissa Gueye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to challenge Arsenal’s formidable midfield. His withdrawal late in the game coincided with Arsenal’s decisive goals, underscoring his importance to the team.
As Everton faces fitness concerns with Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski, Iroegbunam’s role could become even more pivotal. Manager David Moyes has previously adapted by repositioning James Garner to right-back, thereby creating opportunities for Iroegbunam in the midfield. With a crucial match against Chelsea looming, Iroegbunam’s consistency and ability to seize opportunities will be vital as Everton aims to bounce back and strengthen their position in the league.
