Xavi Simons
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Xavi Simons is gearing up for a crucial Champions League last 16 match against Atletico Madrid. The 22-year-old Dutch international is not only focused on European success but also on helping Spurs climb away from the Premier League’s lower ranks. In a candid Q&A session with Pro:Direct Soccer, Simons shared his thoughts on his time in North London and the promising talents within the club.
Xavi Simons said: “I really like how he plays and I think he’s going to be a really good midfielder.” He further added, “They call me Xa or they call me another word, but this I cannot say, so I will keep it for myself!”
Simons expressed admiration for 19-year-old Gray, whom he considers the best in training and the most surprising player since his arrival at Tottenham. Additionally, he highlighted academy prospects Luca Williams-Barnett and Jun’ai Byfield as future stars to watch. Simons also praised his international team-mate and Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber, describing him as the opponent he has most enjoyed facing this season.
Xavi Simons said: “I would say a lot of guys, especially Micky [Van de Ven] and all the other guys that I played against like Mathys Tel, Djed Spence, Kevin Danso, [Randal] Kolo Muani, everyone.”
Simons acknowledged the support he has received from his teammates, particularly Micky Van de Ven and others he has faced on the field. He also shared a light-hearted insight into his footwear habits, admitting to using around 40 to 50 pairs of boots each season, while keeping the special ones.
Simons’ reflections offer a glimpse into the camaraderie and emerging talent at Tottenham Hotspur. As he prepares for the vital Champions League fixture, his focus remains on contributing to the team’s success both domestically and in Europe.
