Tottenham Hotspur’s recent 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace has left them teetering just one point above the Premier League relegation zone. The loss extended their winless streak to 11 matches, intensifying the pressure on the team and its management. The match saw Dominic Solanke open the scoring for Spurs, but a series of unfortunate events, including a red card for Mickey van de Ven, led to their downfall.
Dominic Solanke said: “We’ve just had a big conversation. We know the position we are in is definitely not where we want to be so we need to figure out how we are going to get out of it as soon as possible. We know there’s been difficulties but we’re not in a position to make any excuses anymore. We need to do the job on the pitch. It is easy to say we want to be better but we want to be better on the pitch. We need to fight and realise the position we are in. We know the club is not used to being in this position so we need to understand it and understand it’s not going to be easy and we need to fight every single game, every single minute, to make sure we improve.”
Tudor said: “After this game I believe in (them) more than before, maybe it sounds strange but this is it. I saw something in the team, I saw that there is something, even now in the dressing room after the game. I saw something, some good energy, some wish to do, some passion. The fight, I saw it was there. Unfortunately the red card changed the game but there are still nine games to play. I will not speak anymore about pressure.”
The match began with promise for Tottenham as Solanke’s goal came shortly after a reprieve from semi-automated technology that ruled Ismaila Sarr offside. However, the momentum shifted dramatically when van de Ven was sent off for a foul on Sarr, leading to a penalty. Crystal Palace capitalized on the advantage, with Jorgen Strand-Larsen and Sarr scoring to secure the victory.
The defeat marked consecutive losses for interim manager Tudor, following a previous setback against Fulham. Despite the challenging circumstances, Tudor expressed confidence in the team’s potential to turn things around. The Croatian manager highlighted the presence of “good energy” and “passion” within the squad, even as they face the daunting task of avoiding relegation.
The atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium reflected the fans’ frustration, with many leaving before halftime and boos echoing at both the interval and full-time. As Spurs prepare for a crucial encounter against Liverpool at Anfield, the pressure mounts for the team to deliver results and secure their Premier League status.
