Burnley manager Scott Parker expressed his frustration and bewilderment following the team’s lackluster performance in their recent defeat against Everton. The match saw Burnley struggling to find their footing, with former Claret James Tarkowski scoring the opening goal for Everton through a set piece. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall further extended Everton’s lead shortly after the break, leaving Burnley with little hope of a comeback.
Scott Parker said: “I think anger, I think confusion and trying to probably analyse exactly the reason for the performance really. We were way short and were never really in the game. In every aspect of our game tonight, we were just way, way short really. With the ball, duels, yeah, we never got going tonight.”
Burnley fans shared Parker’s sentiments, expressing their dissatisfaction with the team’s lack of a coherent game plan. The team appeared passive and weak from the outset, choosing to sit back and absorb pressure without posing any significant threat on the counterattack. This strategy only served to invite more pressure from Everton, leading to a disappointing outcome.
Parker added: “Well, like always, the game plan was similar to the game plan that we went to Crystal Palace and obviously got a result. We went to Chelsea and got a result and that didn’t materialise for one reason or another. That was really disappointing. Really, really disappointing.”
The defeat highlighted Burnley’s defensive frailties, particularly during set pieces, which Parker found especially frustrating. He emphasized the importance of reaching half-time without conceding further, a goal that was thwarted by poor defending.
This performance leaves Burnley with much to ponder as they look to regain their form and address the issues that have plagued their recent matches. The team’s inability to execute their game plan effectively against Everton raises questions about their strategy and resilience in upcoming fixtures.
