Vitor Pereira
Nottingham Forest are navigating a challenging season as they strive to balance their Europa League ambitions with the pressing need to secure their Premier League status. The Reds have advanced to the last 16 of the Europa League, yet they find themselves precariously close to the relegation zone, sitting just two points clear. With an upcoming clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Forest are eager to end a five-match winless streak in the league.
Vitor Pereira said: “This is an ambitious club with an ambitious president and, for sure, we want to move forward in the Europa League. But we want, with everything, to be in the Premier League next season. Before I accepted the job, I looked at the schedule and I knew it would be tough, but a very good challenge. For me, to be in the Premier League and facing these kinds of problems is an honour. It means I am here, in the best league in the world, fighting against the best managers in the world and I have top players to work with – this is a lot of things to be happy about.”
Pereira expressed his concerns about the quick turnaround between fixtures, particularly after Forest’s recent 2-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion. The team struggled with energy levels and preparation time, having played Fenerbahce just days before. As they prepare to face Pep Guardiola’s formidable City side, Pereira emphasized the need for strategic play and rest to enhance their performance.
Vitor Pereira said: “We can play at a better level (than on Sunday). We have to try to rest, to be physically and mentally ready for the next game, and go there and try to get some points. We need to approach the game with intelligence. We need to play against City with our tools, our qualities, our work and try to understand the proper moments to do our things – press them at the proper time. It is understanding about the game; this is something we can improve.”
Forest’s predicament highlights the challenges of competing on multiple fronts. While their Europa League journey is commendable, the immediate priority remains Premier League survival. The upcoming match against Manchester City is crucial, not only for points but also for boosting team morale. Pereira’s focus on strategic intelligence and player readiness will be pivotal as Forest aim to navigate through this demanding period successfully.
