Emre Can
Borussia Dortmund has confirmed that their captain, Emre Can, will be out of action for several months following a significant injury sustained during the recent Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich. The German side revealed the extent of Can’s injury, which will see the midfielder sidelined for an extended period.
Borussia Dortmund said: “Borussia Dortmund will have to do without Emre Can for an extended period. The BVB captain suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee during the Bundesliga match against FC Bayern Munich and will be sidelined for several months.”
Sebastian Kehl said: “Emre’s injury is extremely bitter. Not just for him, but for all of us. He is our captain, always puts the team first and is an important part of our club.”
Emre Can’s injury comes as a significant setback for Dortmund, who are already grappling with their recent exit from the Champions League. The team was eliminated after a dramatic play-off tie against Atalanta, which ended 4-3 on aggregate. Can, who joined Dortmund permanently after a loan spell from Juventus, has been a pivotal figure for the club over the past five years.
The injury is not only a blow to Dortmund but also to Can, who has been instrumental in the team’s midfield. His leadership and experience will be sorely missed as the club navigates the remainder of the season without their captain. Meanwhile, Liverpool, Can’s former club, has been handed a favorable draw against Galatasaray in the Champions League last-16, with ties scheduled later this month. The Reds are also set to face Wolves in their next league fixture, aiming to extend their winning streak.
Dortmund will now have to reassess their squad depth and tactics to cope with the absence of their captain. The club and fans alike will be hoping for a swift and successful recovery for Can, whose presence on the field is invaluable.
