In a thrilling encounter at Turf Moor, Keith Andrews lauded Burnley’s resilience despite his Brentford side clinching a chaotic 4-3 victory. The match, described as a “rollercoaster” by Andrews, showcased both teams’ fighting spirit and tactical adaptability in a topsy-turvy game.
Keith Andrews said: “I thought the first half we were very good. We played with a lot of conviction. We attacked with real speed and venom and belief, so I really liked a lot of what I was seeing in the first half. I thought the lads were excellent, with and without the ball. We did the basics really well, which enabled us to transition and counter-attack. The goal before half-time, the own goal, just changed a little bit. I knew we’d have to start the second half really well.”
Andrews continued: “I thought they’d make changes and they did. They changed the system a little bit through the first half and we didn’t deal with that particularly well at the start of the second half. It’s a rollercoaster. We need to learn from that ultimately. We need to develop as a group. Myself included, around what we could and should have done a little bit better. This was never going to be an easy game. It was always going to be difficult. Really difficult. I saw that at Crystal Palace a few weeks ago, where they went 2-0 down and go 3-2 up. They’re really fighting this team. Really well organised. They’ve got a really good coach. I respect them.”
He added: “If I had been asked if I would accept a 4-3 victory away to Burnley, I would have taken it. Obviously, I wouldn’t have been as pleased if they’d gone against us. When it gets into that kind of territory, when it’s offside, for me I’m very much in the camp whether it is or it isn’t, so they deem that it is offside. On the handball, I do think it’s handball.”
The match saw Brentford take an early lead, displaying impressive attacking prowess and tactical discipline. However, Burnley responded with equal determination, pushing Brentford to adapt their strategy. The encounter highlighted the importance of in-game adjustments, as both sides made tactical changes to counter each other’s strengths.
Andrews’ reflection on the game underscores the competitive nature of the Premier League, where no victory comes easy. His acknowledgment of Burnley’s organization and coaching reflects the respect shared among top-flight managers. Despite the chaotic nature of the match, Andrews’ side emerged victorious, yet he emphasized the need for continuous learning and development.
The game at Turf Moor is a testament to the unpredictable and exhilarating nature of Premier League football, where tactical acumen and resilience often determine the outcome.
