Mauricio Pochettino
Tottenham Hotspur fans have been vocal about their desire for Mauricio Pochettino’s return following the dismissal of Thomas Frank. The sentiment is particularly strong in the United States, where Pochettino is currently engaged as a short-term hire for the summer’s World Cup. However, his commitment to the U.S. team could conflict with the start of Spurs’ pre-season training, raising questions about his availability for a potential return.
Mauricio Pochettino said: “In the end, especially because of my past at those clubs, when things aren’t going well, people tend to fall back on emotion and say, ‘Well, with Mauricio we played good football,’ or whatever it may be. But no, we’re focused on the World Cup, on the United States. My contract runs until after the World Cup, so after that we’ll see what might happen.”
Pochettino added: “I am in the USA, so I am not going to talk about that now – but what I said then I still, after six years or five years, feel in my heart. Asked which of his former clubs meant the most to him, the Argentine said: ‘It is very simple: Tottenham. Still, the people on the street, the fans of Tottenham, really show the love and the appreciation, and I think that is why it’s so special.'”
The affection Pochettino holds for Tottenham is evident, as he has frequently expressed his fondness for the club and its supporters. This emotional connection has fueled speculation about his potential return, despite his current obligations with the U.S. national team. Meanwhile, Tottenham is actively seeking a permanent managerial appointment, with Igor Tudor recently taking charge to steer the club away from the threat of relegation.
The timing of Pochettino’s contract with the U.S. team, which extends beyond the World Cup, could complicate matters if Spurs were to consider him for a managerial role ahead of their pre-season. The club’s search for stability continues as they aim to secure a manager who can lead them back to Premier League prominence.
