Jarrad Branthwaite
Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite faced a challenging pre-season after sustaining a significant hamstring injury, which required surgery in October. Despite his recent return to action, Branthwaite has yet to receive a call-up from England manager Thomas Tuchel. However, the defender remains hopeful of a late inclusion in the squad for this summer’s tournament, aiming to finish the season strongly.
Jarrad Branthwaite said: “It’s got to be [the goal]. That was my aim at the start of the season. It’s going to be difficult. I think the only thing I can do is go out there and put on good performances every game and give myself the best possible chance.”
Branthwaite continued: “To miss all the time I’ve missed this season has had a huge impact on the momentum I had in the last couple of years. Hopefully I’m past that now and I can get a good momentum going, stay injury-free and push for the World Cup squad.”
He added: “I’ve been out for so long and haven’t played much football, so it’s down to me and my performances to give myself the best possible chance to be in and around it. I’ve been in and around the England squads. It would just be a dream to go and play at the World Cup and be there.”
Branthwaite’s only appearance for England came as a substitute against Bosnia and Herzegovina in June 2024. The young defender expressed his disappointment over the current campaign, which has been marred by injury, affecting his momentum from previous seasons. Despite these setbacks, Branthwaite is determined to showcase his abilities and secure a spot in the national team for the upcoming World Cup.
The road to recovery has been arduous for Branthwaite, but his resolve to perform consistently in the remaining matches of the season reflects his ambition. With the World Cup on the horizon, his performances for Everton will be crucial in catching the attention of the national selectors. As Branthwaite continues to regain his form, his focus remains on delivering strong performances that could potentially earn him a place in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
