Liam Delap
Liam Delap played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s recent triumph on Humberside, registering three assists in a commanding performance. Despite not finding the back of the net himself, Delap’s contributions were instrumental in Chelsea’s success, showcasing his ability to impact games beyond scoring goals.
Liam Delap said: “It was a really good evening for us, especially being back here, as well as I’ve got some great memories here. It was a good night, and we got the result we wanted. I think we showed dominance in the first half, and we didn’t put our chances away. In the second half, we did. That was the difference. We came here with one task, and that was to win.”
Delap added: “There are always different reasons a team is selected – it’s rarely the same side. So we’re used to it, and it’s part of football, you’ve got to adapt to that, and the best teams show that no matter who is playing, you get the job done. I need to keep myself fit and stay in a rhythm. That’s the same for everyone else. The end of the season is going to be really challenging, and we’ll need everyone. So it’s really important that everyone contributes and focuses when they need to.”
He further commented: “I know [Rosenior] from before [at Hull City]. I think the messages he’s brought into the group, we all buy into it. You can see by the results we’re getting that we’re doing well. So hopefully we can build on that and improve in every game.”
Delap, who transferred to Chelsea from Ipswich Town for £30 million in the summer, has been working towards rediscovering his goalscoring form, having netted only twice this season. While Joao Pedro has been leading the line for much of the campaign, Delap remains a valued asset, with manager Liam Rosenior likely to provide him with more opportunities as the season progresses. Delap emphasized the importance of maintaining fitness and rhythm, not just for himself but for the entire team, as they face the challenges of the season’s final stretch.
With Chelsea aiming to build on their recent performances, Delap’s adaptability and contributions on the field will be crucial. The 23-year-old’s understanding of Rosenior’s strategies, stemming from their previous association at Hull City, has been beneficial for the team. As Chelsea continues to strive for consistency and improvement, Delap’s role could prove vital in their pursuit of success.
