Liam Rosenior has given an injury update on key Chelsea players Marc Cucurella and Reece James as the team gears up for their FA Cup fourth-round encounter against Hull City. The Blues may face the challenge of playing without some of their star players when they visit the MKM Stadium on Friday night.
Liam Rosenior said: “Marc, it’s too early to know. He’s definitely out vs Hull. Reece trained modified, he’s still under the weather. We’ll make a decision on Reece tomorrow.”
Rosenior’s comments highlight the uncertainty surrounding the availability of Cucurella and James, which could impact Chelsea’s lineup. Despite these concerns, Rosenior expressed his intention not to make wholesale changes to the team that recently faced Daniel Farke’s side at Stamford Bridge.
Rosenior said: “No, this is a tough game. I don’t see it any different to a Premier League game or a Champions League game. They’re in good form and used to winning games at the moment.”
Rosenior, who took over as Chelsea’s head coach after a successful stint at Strasbourg, is set to return to Hull City, a club that holds personal significance for him. Having served as both a player and manager at Hull, Rosenior reflected on the emotional connection he has with the club.
Rosenior said: “Firstly, Hull City is very special to me. My grandma was a season ticket holder. The club means a lot to me for many different reasons. Without Hull, without the experience as a player and manager, I wouldn’t be sat here. I had some amazing times there. It’s great to see them doing so well in the league. It’s going to be an emotional one for me to go back.”
Hull City owner Acun Ilicali also shared his thoughts on Rosenior’s career trajectory, expressing confidence in his success at Chelsea.
Acun Ilicali said: “I really respect Liam as a person first and foremost, but also as a coach. I felt that his style was not suited to the Championship and I wanted something different in the end. It was a really hard decision to part ways because of the relationship we had together, but I felt it was the right one to make. I said at the time I felt Liam would go on and be very successful, and that’s proved to be the case with the job he did at Strasbourg and now being given the chance at Chelsea, which makes me very proud.”
As Chelsea prepares for their FA Cup clash, Rosenior’s connection to Hull City and the potential absence of key players add layers of intrigue to the upcoming match. The encounter promises to be a test of Chelsea’s resilience and adaptability under Rosenior’s leadership.
