Nottingham Forest are gearing up for a critical encounter against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night, as they continue their fight to avoid relegation. The Reds missed an opportunity to distance themselves from the drop zone after a 3-1 defeat to Leeds United last Friday. The absence of centre-back Murillo due to a calf injury forced manager Sean Dyche to make a last-minute adjustment to his defensive setup. However, there is hope that the Brazilian defender might return for the midweek fixture.
Sean Dyche said: “It’s settling. We will probably know more tomorrow to make a final decision. It is probably a touch and go one at this stage, but it is settling and he was happy with that this morning. He has done very well, both before and during my time here. We had a minimum window to change things around, but that’s sometimes the way it happens.”
Murillo’s absence was not the only setback for Forest. Full-back Neco Williams was also unavailable last week, serving a one-match suspension following his red card in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. In response to these key absences, Dyche deployed centre-back Zach Abbott at right-back, while Ola Aina moved from right-back to left-back. Meanwhile, Morato partnered with Nikola Milenkovic in central defense. Dyche is hopeful of having his regular defensive lineup available against Wolves, although he is expected to be without goalkeeper Matz Sels, who is recovering from a groin injury sustained against Crystal Palace.
Sean Dyche commented on Sels’ condition: “Sels’ is settling down but it is not going to be days. We’re not sure on the extent of how long, but it is certainly not going to be days. We are just hopeful it settles sooner rather than later. He is feeling pretty good at the moment.”
In Sels’ absence, new signing Stefan Ortega stepped in between the posts at Elland Road. The upcoming match against Wolves is crucial for Nottingham Forest, as they aim to maintain their position above the relegation zone. West Ham United, currently in 18th place, could draw level on points with Forest if they secure a victory against Manchester United on Tuesday night. Forest’s performance against Wolves will be pivotal in their quest to secure Premier League safety.
