Former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood is urging Jose Mourinho to deploy Dele Alli in the No.10 position as speculation about the England international’s future continues to mount.
Tim Sherwood said “There might be some truth in [the PSG rumours. I was saying for many years that he’d been the best pound-for-pound signing Tottenham had made for many years; I mean, £5million from MK Dons and he ends up in the England squad a year later. His value was rising, but at the moment his value is going down. It looks from the outside that Jose doesn’t like him, and it’s up to Dele right now to roll his sleeves up and prove that whatever Jose is saying about him is wrong and prove him wrong and get back in the side. But it’s difficult. Gareth Bale has come in now so where are you actually going to play Dele? Is he going to be an 8? He’s not a sitting midfield player and I think he’s best as a 10 – as a free spirit like he was under Pochettino. That’s what he’s good at, that’s what he does – score goals – and he’s still a good player. He’s not turned into a bad player overnight.”
Despite claims linking Alli with an imminent exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Mourinho has played down the prospect of the attacking-midfielder leaving the club before the window closes on October 5. Having been left out of Spurs’ last two match-day squads, speculation has quickly mounted about the former MK Dons man’s future, with reports claiming that he longer figures in Mourinho’s plans following the return of Gareth Bale.
