Stockport County has announced the return of Louie Barry on loan from Aston Villa, much to the delight of the club’s management. The young forward, who previously made an impact during his time at Stockport, is expected to bolster the League One side’s promotion ambitions. Barry’s return comes after recovering from an injury sustained while on loan at Sheffield United, where he made nine appearances earlier in the season.
David Challinor said: “Whether Louie plays a massive part, a small part or even no part, the desire for all parties to reunite him back with the football club was unanimous. He’s obviously returning from an injury which required surgery, and we are in the hands of the medical teams as to when he returns. If it’s quicker, fantastic, if it’s not, then so be it. We are doing this as a ‘possibility’ signing, but are very clear as to what could or could not happen. He’s a player we know extremely well, and one who has already made a real and lasting impact here. We know our supporters will share that excitement, but it’s important that we’re sensible with expectations as Louie continues his recovery from injury. We’ll take a careful and measured approach, but there’s no doubt about his hunger and motivation. He’s desperate to get back out there and make a difference.”
David Challinor continued: “When we first brought Louie to the club on loan in League Two, the brief was simple. We wanted a player who could take defenders on, excite the crowd and get people off their seats. In both of his spells with us, he delivered that and more, and it’s something we’re really looking forward to seeing again in the second half of the season. I still remember the manager telling Louie that this was an opportunity to really ‘get his numbers up’ in terms of goals and assists and he certainly backed that up on the pitch.”
Barry’s previous spell at Stockport was marked by memorable performances, including a standout goal against Cambridge in the early moments of a League One match. His ability to excite fans and contribute significantly to the team’s attacking play was evident during his earlier tenure. As he returns to Edgeley Park, there is a palpable sense of anticipation among supporters, though the club remains cautious about setting expectations too high given his recent injury.
The decision to bring Barry back is seen as a strategic move to enhance Stockport’s attacking options as they aim for promotion. The club’s management is optimistic about his potential impact, while also acknowledging the need for patience as he continues his recovery. Barry’s hunger to return to the pitch and make a difference is clear, and his return is expected to add a dynamic element to Stockport’s campaign in the latter half of the season.
