Nottingham Forest’s recent match against Crystal Palace at the City Ground saw two key players, goalkeeper Matz Sels and winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, withdrawn at half-time due to injuries. Sels is suspected to have sustained a groin problem, while Hudson-Odoi suffered a shoulder injury. Both players are set to undergo scans to determine the extent of their injuries, which could impact Forest’s ongoing battle to secure Premier League survival.
Sean Dyche said: “Some of it was tactical,” referring to Hudson-Odoi being substituted at the break. “But equally, he has hurt his shoulder so we will have to get that scanned as well. A few different people got knocks today. Part of it was my decision tactically, so I was going to remove him because of that, but he has hurt his shoulder as well so it was a double whammy. Hopefully, it is nothing too serious but we will probably find out more tomorrow.”
The match concluded with a 1-1 draw, as Morgan Gibbs-White’s early goal was equalized by Ismaila Sarr’s penalty following a handball offense by Neco Williams, which resulted in Williams being sent off. This point could prove crucial for Forest as they strive to maintain their Premier League status.
In a bid to bolster their squad amidst these injury woes, Forest unveiled new signing Stefan Ortega to the City Ground crowd before the game. The 33-year-old goalkeeper has joined on a short-term contract until the end of the season, following his departure from Manchester City. Ortega’s arrival is particularly timely given the injury to Sels, although he was not eligible to play against Crystal Palace. Angus Gunn stepped in for Sels, marking his debut for Forest.
The Reds are also contending with the absence of John Victor, who is sidelined for the rest of the season due to knee surgery. The addition of Ortega aims to provide much-needed depth and experience to the squad as they navigate these challenging times.
