James Ward Prowse
James Ward-Prowse has joined Burnley as their first signing of the January transfer window, marking a significant shift in his career. The England international, who has found himself sidelined at West Ham under Nuno Espirito Santo, is set to spend the remainder of the season on loan at Turf Moor. The midfielder expressed his excitement and readiness to embrace the new challenge as he aims to make a positive impact at Burnley.
James Ward-Prowse said: “It’s good to get everything done, it’s crazy how quickly football can change and these things happen. It’s good to be here. I’m glad to be in the building and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Ward-Prowse’s move to Burnley comes after a challenging period at West Ham, where he experienced limited playing time. The midfielder, known for his consistency and work ethic, is eager to return to regular action and contribute to his new team.
James Ward-Prowse added: “Throughout my career I’ve been used to playing a lot and playing consistently, but I’ve had a bit of a period away from the game if you like which was disappointing and challenging in many ways. But it also gave me a chance to reflect on myself and work on a few things, it’s almost made my love for the game grow even more.”
Despite being renowned for his set-piece prowess, Ward-Prowse emphasized that his game extends beyond dead-ball situations. He is determined to give his all for Burnley and hopes to play a pivotal role in their campaign.
James Ward-Prowse stated: “I’m somebody that will always give 100 per cent. Of course, we all want to play well every week but it’s not always possible, but I will always give everything for the shirt no matter who I’m playing for. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead. It’s clear what needs to be achieved and hopefully I can play a good part in that.”
Ward-Prowse is also on the brink of equalling a significant Premier League record. With 17 set-piece goals to his name, he is just one free-kick away from matching David Beckham’s record of 18 Premier League set-piece goals.
James Ward-Prowse mentioned: “I have [got an eye on that record], you’re not the first person to mention that. It’s about playing well for the club I’m playing for and in this case, it’s Burnley. Obviously, there’s a bigger goal and a bigger target to achieve, so hopefully, one of them can contribute to winning games. But the main goal is to win games and do well.”
Ward-Prowse’s addition to Burnley is expected to bolster their midfield options significantly. His experience and skill set, particularly in set-pieces, could prove invaluable as Burnley aims to climb the Premier League table. The move also offers Ward-Prowse a fresh start and an opportunity to reignite his career after a challenging spell at West Ham.
