As the January transfer window draws to a close, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly shown interest in acquiring Liverpool’s left-back, Andy Robertson. The Scottish international was named on the bench during Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League but was brought on at half-time to replace Milos Kerkez, playing the entire second half.
Arne Slot said: “I think I need all of my players. I thought, let’s bring Robbo in at half-time to make sure Milos [Kerkez] stays available for the rest of the season, because there are a lot of games to be played with the players that are available.”
Slot further addressed questions regarding Liverpool’s potential transfer activities before the deadline, maintaining a firm stance on the matter.
Slot said: “No updates in terms of transfers. I never speak in public about transfers. There’s nothing to say on my side.”
Tottenham’s manager, Thomas Frank, was also asked about the club’s chances of signing Robertson following their 2-2 draw with Burnley. When questioned about whether Robertson could have made a difference in the game, Frank was clear in his response.
Frank said: “Just on that one, in general as you don’t know me that well, I don’t speak about players that are not in the club – except [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi.”
The interest in Robertson highlights Tottenham’s intent to strengthen their squad, particularly in the left-back position. However, Liverpool’s reluctance to discuss transfer dealings publicly suggests that any potential move would require significant negotiation. As the window’s deadline looms, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can secure Robertson’s services or if Liverpool will retain their defensive stalwart for the remainder of the season.
