Liverpool have initiated preliminary discussions with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a potential transfer deal for left-back Andy Robertson. With Robertson’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, Liverpool are exploring options, although no final decision has been made about his future. Tottenham have shown interest in securing Robertson’s services before the February 2 transfer deadline.
Arne Slot said: “I think I need all of my players. I thought, let’s bring Robbo in at half-time to make sure Milos [Kerkez] stays available for the rest of the season, because there are a lot of games to be played with the players that are available. I have to manage that, as well, because the last thing we need right now is another injury.”
Slot added: “No updates in terms of transfers. I never speak in public about transfers. There’s nothing to say on my side.”
Thomas Frank said: “Just on that one, in general as you don’t know me that well, I don’t speak about players that are not in the club – except Ronaldo and Messi.”
The potential move for Robertson has sparked interest given his integral role at Liverpool. Arne Slot, Liverpool’s head coach, emphasized the importance of retaining Robertson, especially with the demanding schedule ahead. Slot’s comments suggest that while discussions are ongoing, the club’s priority remains maintaining squad depth and avoiding further injuries.
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s manager, Thomas Frank, remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the transfer, adhering to his policy of not discussing players outside his squad. His comments, however, underline the intrigue surrounding Robertson’s potential impact at Tottenham, particularly following their recent 2-2 draw with Burnley.
As the transfer window progresses, both clubs seem to be weighing their options carefully. Liverpool’s decision to engage in talks with Tottenham indicates a willingness to consider offers, but the final outcome will likely depend on several factors, including squad needs and Robertson’s own preferences.
