Sean Dyche Burnley
Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche faced a challenging situation as his team traveled to Portugal for their Europa League match against Braga without a recognized striker. Gabriel Jesus, who was expected to lead the line, did not make the trip due to a hip injury. This absence left Forest without a crucial attacking option, although they are reportedly close to securing a loan deal for Italian forward Lorenzo Lucca. Meanwhile, center-back Murillo traveled with the team but was not included in the match squad due to a tight hamstring.
Sean Dyche said: “We are hopeful it settles down. He’s got a bang on the hip. It was too inflamed to be involved.”
Dyche added on Murillo: “He had a tight hamstring. We’re having to be careful. This is the challenge with the schedule, managing all the players, trying to win games, trying to educate them, to get them playing and trying to win. This is the challenge – I knew it when I got here and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy.”
The absence of key players like Jesus and Murillo has compounded the challenges for Dyche, who is trying to balance the demands of European competition with the need to secure Premier League survival. The 1-0 defeat in Portugal, courtesy of a Ryan Yates own goal, has left Forest in a precarious position in their Europa League group. Despite this setback, Dyche remains optimistic about his team’s overall performance in the competition, highlighting their previous successes.
Dyche commented: “Apart from Braga we’ve drawn one and won three (in the Europa League) – and won pretty well. It’s only Braga where we’ve had a flat performance and we get done by a silly goal.”
The manager also emphasized the need for squad rotation due to fitness concerns, acknowledging that the team’s current fitness levels require him to frequently change the lineup. This approach will likely continue as Forest prepares for their upcoming Premier League match against Brentford, where Dyche will aim to find the right balance to secure a positive result.
