David Moyes
Everton manager David Moyes is grappling with several important decisions regarding his squad as the winter transfer window approaches its close. With Everton set to face Leeds United at home, Moyes has been addressing the futures of Harrison Armstrong, James Garner, and Beto.
David Moyes said: “I think like any player, whether it be an overseas player or a young player, it sometimes takes you a few games to get used to the Premier League. Harrison has done a brilliant job since he came in. I still would like to give him back to Preston if it’s right, but if I can’t and I need him here, I’ll more than do that. I’ve got to make sure that I get him games. I don’t want him sitting on the bench.”
Harrison Armstrong, who recently turned 19, was initially sent on a season-long loan to Preston North End but was recalled by Everton on New Year’s Day due to a selection crisis. Since his return, Armstrong has impressed with his performances, starting in Everton’s last three matches. Despite his solid displays, Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom remains hopeful of Armstrong’s return before the transfer window shuts.
David Moyes said: “I told Thomas [Tuchel] that James was Scottish really and I would be surprised if he could play for England! His name sounds Scottish, so that was it. No, we just had a chat about a few things. He’s been at a couple of games that we’ve won narrowly, so he’s a wee bit of our club mascot at the moment!”
James Garner, another key player for Everton, is reportedly close to signing a new contract. Garner’s current deal, which includes an option to extend, is set to expire this summer. Moyes confirmed that negotiations are progressing, indicating a positive outcome for both the player and the club.
David Moyes said: “Things are moving on.”
Meanwhile, speculation has emerged about Beto’s potential move to Turkish side Fenerbahce. However, Moyes dismissed these rumors, emphasizing the club’s need to retain their strikers.
David Moyes said: “I know nothing about it at the moment, no. We wouldn’t [be prepared to let him go] because we’ve not got enough [strikers].”
As the transfer window deadline looms, Moyes must carefully consider his squad options to ensure Everton remains competitive in the Premier League. Armstrong’s potential return to Preston, Garner’s contract renewal, and retaining Beto are all pivotal decisions that could shape the club’s immediate future.
