In a recent Premier League fixture against Aston Villa, Chelsea faced disciplinary action following an incident that occurred after their match on December 27, 2025. The match saw Chelsea initially take the lead through Joao Pedro, only for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins to equalize and later secure a victory with a late winner. Post-match tensions escalated, leading to a breach of FA rules by the Chelsea team.
An official statement from the FA read: “Chelsea FC has been sanctioned for a breach of FA Rule E20.1 that occurred at its Premier League fixture against Aston Villa FC on Saturday 27 December 2025. It was alleged that the club failed to ensure its players and/or other relevant personnel around the technical area did not behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or abusive way after the final whistle. Chelsea FC subsequently admitted the charge.”
The former Chelsea manager commented: “I think the goal we conceded for sure changed the dynamic of the game. I think by the time we conceded the first goal, we should have scored two or three goals. For sure, we have to be clinical because, again, as I said, by the time they scored the goal, I think we should have scored two or three goals and the game is different. They were dominating. We couldn’t get the ball easily. We were defending low, we are defending well. We didn’t concede corners, only one corner and they score. But we needed to be passionate and try to keep being resilient and we were speaking after the first half in the dressing room. Normally we could improve like we did because they were pushing a lot in the first half and in the second half we knew we could have our momentum, as well to control the game better than the first half.”
The match, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for Chelsea, was marred by a post-match incident where a plastic water bottle was reportedly thrown into the visitors’ technical area. This led to a visible confrontation, with a member of the Aston Villa staff pointing towards the Chelsea bench. The FA’s charge against Chelsea highlights the importance of maintaining decorum and discipline within the technical area, especially in high-stakes matches.
Chelsea’s acknowledgment of the charge reflects a commitment to addressing the issue, though it also points to the need for improved management of player and staff conduct in future fixtures. The incident serves as a reminder of the pressures and emotions involved in Premier League football, and the importance of adhering to the FA’s standards of behavior.
