Jadon Sancho
Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho has begun to find his stride at Aston Villa, largely due to the supportive environment fostered by manager Unai Emery. The 25-year-old winger recently scored his first goal for the club, a decisive strike against Fenerbahce, which marked a significant moment in his ongoing loan spell.
Jadon Sancho said: “He just keeps on telling me to be positive every time I play. It’s nice to have a manager that backs you and obviously believes in you. Every opportunity I get I’m going to try and do 100 per cent and hopefully I can deliver goals more. Obviously, the manager and the team are helping me to get to my best. Honestly, I know I can do a lot more. I’m very hard on myself in that aspect. But again, I’m very grateful that I got my first goal for Aston Villa and I hope it continues.”
Sancho’s journey at Aston Villa has been a challenging one thus far. After spending the previous season on loan at Chelsea, where he made 31 league appearances and scored three goals, a permanent move from Manchester United failed to materialize until the end of the summer transfer window. Villa managed to secure his services on loan from Old Trafford on the deadline day in September.
Despite starting only two league games and not scoring until recently, Sancho’s performance against Fenerbahce highlighted his potential resurgence. His comments reflect a renewed confidence, driven by the faith Emery has placed in him. Sancho’s appreciation for Emery’s support underscores the importance of a positive managerial relationship in a player’s development.
Sancho added: “We’re doing well in the league and we’re doing well in the Europa League. But we’ve got to take it game by game, you can never get too ahead of yourself.”
Sancho’s remarks about Villa’s trophy aspirations indicate a grounded approach to the season. The victory over Fenerbahce was not just a personal milestone for Sancho but also a testament to the collective effort of the team under Emery’s guidance. As Sancho continues to adapt and grow at Villa, his contributions could prove pivotal in the club’s pursuit of success in both domestic and European competitions.
