Dominic Calvert Lewis
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has made a significant impact in the Premier League this season, becoming the highest-scoring Englishman with nine goals. After leaving Everton at the end of his contract, Calvert-Lewin joined his current club for free over the summer. His exceptional form in December, where he netted six goals in five games, earned him the Premier League Player of the Month award.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin said: “I wouldn’t have joined if I didn’t believe in what I was joining. For me, from the outside looking in, I looked at the recruitment, and the players who had got the team into the Premier League and saw enough quality there. Not only what I do from a football perspective but with what I’ve been through over the last three years. My experience would add value to the team and I can share that and help the team through difficult moments, which I like to think I’ve been doing. Adding a positive aspect in all areas.”
Calvert-Lewin’s influence extends beyond his on-field performances. His positive impact in the dressing room has been acknowledged by both manager Daniel Farke and his teammates. Farke has highlighted Calvert-Lewin’s emerging leadership role, attributing it to his extensive experience at the top level of football.
Calvert-Lewin said: “To be fair to the manager, he knows what I’m good at. As I’ve got older, I’ve started to realise more what I am good at. ‘If I’m good at this, keep doing it’. There have been times in the past few years where it’s been frustrating and the way I’ve been asked to play has arguably taken me away from what I’m actually good at and where I thrive. So it’s nice to be in an environment and a team now where I’m allowed to do that and be the focal point and score the goals.”
Calvert-Lewin’s recent success can be attributed to the team’s strategy of playing to his strengths, a factor he acknowledges as crucial to his current form. This approach has allowed him to thrive as a focal point in the team’s attack, enabling him to score crucial goals. His sharp form and leadership qualities have been instrumental in his team’s performance this season, and he continues to be a key figure both on and off the field.
