The striker’s recent performances have sparked discussions as he returned to the starting lineup, scoring a hat-trick in Wolves’ FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town. Despite not starting in the last four Premier League matches, he has been a consistent presence in Wolves’ squad, featuring in all but two of their 21 league games this season. His contributions have been crucial during the team’s four-game unbeaten streak, which included their first league win of the season. Manager Rob Edwards has shared insights into the striker’s impact and the ongoing transfer speculations surrounding the club.
Rob Edwards said: “He’s been working so hard and it’s been a difficult time for him, personally as well, but we all go through this. He is a top quality player. I know goalscorers are judged by their goals, and number nines are judged by their goals, but he really has been. He’s been really good for us. Around the training ground, with the messages that he’s saying, he’s been a big part of why we’ve been able to start turning this around. He’s showing the right things, and he’s a great guy.”
Edwards continued: “A lot of the lads want to try and maybe right some of the wrongs and want to help the club. They want to do well, of course for themselves, but for a football club as well. That’s not saying that no one’s going to go, I’m not saying that, I’ve been consistent with that all the way through. But, it’s not like people are banging the door down or trying to force anything. It’s not the case. If we think it’s the right thing for the club, then we might look at something, but only if it’s right for us. We have got good players here, so I’m expecting there to be rumours and speculation, but at the moment that’s where it is.”
The striker’s return to form comes amidst a backdrop of potential departures from Molineux, with Marshall Munetsi leaving on loan, and ongoing talks involving Emmanuel Agbadou with Besiktas and Joao Gomes with Atletico Madrid. Edwards emphasized the importance of players’ commitment to the club, highlighting their desire to rectify past shortcomings and contribute positively to the team’s future. While transfer rumors swirl, Edwards remains focused on maintaining squad stability and ensuring any potential moves align with the club’s best interests.
As Wolves navigate this period of transition, the manager’s comments reflect a balance between acknowledging transfer market realities and fostering a cohesive team environment. With the striker’s recent hat-trick serving as a testament to his resilience and quality, Wolves fans will be hopeful for continued strong performances as the club looks to build on its recent successes.
