AFC Bournemouth is gearing up for a challenging fixture against City, with the team set to adapt their playing style to counter City’s strengths. The Cherries are aware of the potential for squad rotation from their opponents, which could see them face a mix of star players and emerging talents. This strategic approach is aimed at maximizing their performance despite likely having less possession than usual.
Helen Bleazard said: “But at the same time they’ve got a game three days after that, so they may rest players, they may go out with a full squad. Some players that do rotate in on cup games, so we factored that into our planning, and also some younger players that they might give an opportunity to that’s been in their squad. So there’s never a guarantee that they’re going to play. We’ve prepped as if they are, but at the same time we focus on the opposition in terms of our analysis. But the focus this week has been on us. We make sure that we do everything we can and focus on our strengths whilst tweaking a few things in terms of our tactics. But at the same time we’ve got a really, really good squad and hopefully they’ll be able to show what they’re about on Sunday.”
Helen Bleazard added: “Asked how they best prepare for potential rotation and changes, Bleazard said they know how City will play, regardless of which players start. So we don’t think that’s going to change. It might just be the personnel that changes within that. So we’ve prepped in the way that we have of what we believe they’re going to play in. But again, there are some natural strengths that Bunny Shaw has, which is different to [Vivianne] Miedema, which is different to [Sydney] Lohmann in midfield. But at the same time we can’t focus too much on that because that will just unsettle the players because we’re focusing too much on the opposition.”
Helen Bleazard concluded: “Like I said, we do our analysis, we do our prep work, but it’s been full focus on our team and what we can get out of this game and the strengths that our players have as individuals and as a team.”
AFC Bournemouth’s preparation reflects a balance between understanding the opposition and honing their own strengths. The team is set to focus on their tactical adjustments while ensuring that they remain confident in their abilities. The Cherries are determined to showcase their capabilities on Sunday, leveraging their squad depth and strategic planning to face whatever lineup City might present. This approach underscores the importance of adaptability and self-belief in tackling high-stakes matches.)
