After undergoing surgery for a groin injury in October, Joao Gomes made a remarkable comeback, playing a pivotal role in Wolves’ recent success. His return was marked by a goal that helped propel Rob Edwards’ team forward, maintaining their positive momentum in recent weeks.
Joao Gomes said: “It was a perfect return. It was a good goal. Fer did a very good shot which hit the post and then Tolu found me inside the box and I was fast to react. It was a good goal and I was very happy when the ball touched the net. It was a big win, a good win, six goals and my return from injury. There’s been some tough moments for me with my injury and the surgery, but, although it was a hard moment, the staff did everything they could for me. They always pushed me and helped me to return. And this return was unbelievable, with the goal, so I’m very happy.”
Gomes further elaborated on the challenges he faced during his recovery period, expressing the difficulty of watching from the sidelines and his eagerness to contribute to the team.
Joao Gomes said: “It’s been a difficult time to be watching from the stands, not being able to help the team, but every player doesn’t like to be injured, and, of course, I wanted to help the team. It was a tough moment and it’s been very, very difficult and I was sad, of course, but, since the first day after the surgery, I did everything in my capacity to return as fast as possible. I’m feeling very good, I’m feeling sharp and feeling fit. Of course, scoring goal is an unbelievable return, so I’m very, very happy.”
Gomes also emphasized the importance of a gradual return to full fitness, acknowledging that while he felt ready to play a full match, caution was necessary.
Joao Gomes said: “I’m feeling very good, but we need to be careful. We need to take it step by step. For me, in this game, I wanted to play the 90 minutes, but I can’t do that and you need to be step by step. But I’m feeling very good, I’m feeling fit and without pain, that’s the most important thing, so I’m feeling very happy.”
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Gomes praised the squad’s current form and their unbeaten streak, highlighting the positive atmosphere within the team.
Joao Gomes said: “Winning games and not losing games brings happiness. I think everyone could see that on the pitch the lads are doing an amazing job now. Four games unbeaten is very good and now we need to keep working.”
Gomes’ return not only boosts Wolves’ midfield options but also adds to the team’s morale as they continue their unbeaten run. His successful recovery and immediate impact on the field underline his determination and the support he received from the club’s staff during his rehabilitation.
