Malik Olayiwola
Everton academy midfielder Malik Olayiwola has taken a significant step in his football career by signing his first professional contract with the club. The promising youngster, who recently celebrated his 17th birthday, has committed his future to Everton until June 2028. Olayiwola’s progression through the ranks has been swift, culminating in his inclusion in the senior matchday squad for the recent FA Cup tie against Sunderland.
Malik Olayiwola said: “I’m very proud because I’ve worked a long time for this. This season’s been good because I’ve gone from the Under-18s to Under-21s and then on to the bench with the first team so quickly. It all happened so fast – I was just excited.”
Olayiwola continued: “That was surreal. Being around so many people you watch on TV, warming up and being in the same environment as them was crazy.”
He added: “I want to keep developing as a player but also try to get some minutes with the first team, as well as keep putting in good performances for the Under-21s.”
Olayiwola’s journey with Everton began 12 years ago, and his dedication has been evident throughout his time at the club. Last summer, he transitioned into a first-year scholar, and his rapid ascent through the youth ranks has not gone unnoticed. His impressive performances for the Under-18s, where he scored four goals and provided three assists in eight league appearances, have paved the way for his current success.
The young midfielder’s debut for the Under-18s came in the 2023/24 season when he was just 15 years old, showcasing his potential at an early age. Now, with a professional contract in hand, Olayiwola is focused on further development and earning first-team minutes under the guidance of manager David Moyes.
Olayiwola’s inclusion in the senior squad for the FA Cup match at Hill Dickinson Stadium marked a significant milestone in his budding career. As he continues to hone his skills, Everton fans will be eager to see how this promising talent evolves in the coming years.
