James Maddison Leicester City
James Maddison, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, has been sidelined since August due to a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) sustained during a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in South Korea. The England international, who underwent surgery following the injury, has been diligently working on his rehabilitation. Although Maddison is expected to remain out for several more months, he recently shared a promising video of himself back on the pitch, showcasing his skills with the ball at his feet.
James Maddison said: “When I realised, obviously, I was going to be out for the majority of the season, if not the whole season, that kind of crushed that dream of going to the World Cup. It was a tough one to take. That’s the cons of football and one of the negatives of missing out through injury. It’s about dealing with that mentally. And that’s partly why there’s been some dark days. You want to represent your country, you always want to be in a position, especially off the back of a good season last year. It’s such a long injury. There are so many ups and downs that I just want to be in a place, returning and having a smile on my face and being fit for Tottenham Hotspur, whenever that is. It’s going to be towards the end of the season, so the World Cup is probably going to be ruled out, if not definitely. So, it’s one of them things. As I said, I’ll take it on the chin and, yeah, it’s one of those things that will drive me going forward.”
Maddison’s video, shared on TikTok, depicted him cutting inside and out before delivering a precise strike into the corner of the goal. The midfielder dedicated the goal to his teammate Kudus, who is also facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an injury sustained against Sunderland earlier this month. Maddison’s gesture, complete with Kudus’ trademark celebration, highlighted the camaraderie and support within the team.
Last season, Maddison was a key player for Tottenham, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists in 45 appearances. He had high hopes of continuing this form into the 2025/26 season, especially with a World Cup on the horizon. However, the injury has forced him to recalibrate his ambitions, focusing instead on a successful recovery and return to fitness.
The journey back from an ACL injury is often fraught with challenges, both physical and mental. Maddison’s openness about the “dark days” and the mental toll of missing out on significant opportunities, like the World Cup, underscores the resilience required to overcome such setbacks. His determination to return stronger and contribute to Tottenham’s success remains unwavering, and his progress will be closely watched by fans and teammates alike.
