Andoni Iraola
AFC Bournemouth is gearing up for a crucial FA Cup clash against Newcastle United on Saturday, followed by an extended break before their next Premier League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion on January 19. With the recent departure of Antoine Semenyo and injuries to key players, manager Andoni Iraola has expressed the need for new signings to bolster the squad.
Andoni Iraola said: “But one thing is what you want and the other thing is what you can do. And if we have them obviously much better. But if not at the end the most important thing is to get it right. The decision has to be good. And the players that are here, new signings that for sure we are going to make. I think we have to create another scenario where we can get results. But at the end we know that is with Antoine, also Justin’s injury are two big players for us now that we’ve lost in one week. Now it’s a different situation. And with the ones that we have here and the ones that we are going to assign, we have to create again the puzzle and make it work.”
Iraola continued: “Justin Kluivert had surgery in the week – so he is one player Iraola would like a replacement in for. Antoine has played almost every minute with us. So there is a hole there that we have to fill. Obviously probably is not with the same skills than Antoine or can be a different type of player or the player we can sign in the market. It’s a market that is not easy because there are not a lot of players available. No one wants to lose a good player in January, but I think we have to look at all the options we have available and try to get it right.”
Bournemouth’s manager, Iraola, is facing a challenging transfer window as he aims to replace the departing Semenyo and cover for the injuries to Tyler Adams, Justin Kluivert, and Ben Gannon-Doak. The team has been hit hard by these absences, and Iraola is keen to bring in at least three new players to maintain the squad’s competitive edge. However, he acknowledges the difficulties of the January transfer market, where clubs are typically reluctant to part with valuable players mid-season.
The Cherries are currently navigating a period of uncertainty, with Iraola emphasizing the importance of making strategic decisions to ensure the team remains competitive. The manager is focused on creating a new dynamic within the squad, leveraging both existing players and potential new signings to adapt to the evolving challenges. As Bournemouth prepares for their upcoming fixtures, the club’s ability to secure the right reinforcements will be crucial in their pursuit of success in both domestic and cup competitions.
